Can private hospitals, banks and other service businesses request an ACA review?+
Yes. We welcome enquiries from healthcare, banking and financial services, logistics, hospitality, education and other service industries. An invitation to review is not confirmation of eligibility. The specific service activity, investing legal entity, regulatory approvals, qualifying investment and productivity evidence must be assessed against the applicable MIDA and SIRIM requirements.
Do automation equipment, software or service systems automatically qualify?+
No. A product name, price or digital label does not establish eligibility. The review considers direct operational use, automation or Industry 4.0 capability, measurable productivity improvement and applicable exclusions. Clinical benefits, customer convenience or routine office digitisation alone are not enough.
What does a 200% allowance mean for tax savings?+
The percentage refers to the capital allowance on qualifying expenditure. For illustration, RM1 million of approved qualifying expenditure at 200% corresponds to RM2 million of allowance. It is not a cash payment or a 200% tax refund. Actual savings and the timing of utilisation depend on the company’s tax position and applicable rules.
What if we are claiming Reinvestment Allowance or received a grant?+
Tell us in the assessment, even if you are unsure. MIDA’s guidance sets conditions on claiming ACA alongside other incentives in the same Year of Assessment. For government-funded equipment, the portion not covered by the grant may be considered, subject to the requirements. Your tax adviser should validate the position.
Is the initial review free, and what will I receive?+
Yes. Stephen reviews the information you provide and contacts you within three working days to discuss whether a closer assessment is sensible, what needs clarification, and the next evidence to gather. This is an initial advisory screen; detailed technical work or application support would require a separately agreed scope.
Do I need invoices or confidential customer information to start?+
No uploads are required. Start with your company, investment timing, approximate value and a short description of the workflow improvement. Keep invoices and commissioning records available for a later discussion. Do not include patient, customer, account or transaction details, personal identifiers or other confidential records.
Who approves the incentive?+
The company submits through the prescribed InvestMalaysia process. MIDA evaluates non-technical eligibility and SIRIM verifies technical and productivity matters. The company and its appointed tax agent handle the tax claim with IRBM. TT Thrive is an independent adviser and does not issue official approvals.
